Windows can't be installed on drive 0 partition 1

In the process of installing Windows operating system, you may encounter many different problems. The issue caused by target disk is one of the most common issues. These issues stop the installation process, so it is better to fix it as soon as possible.

When you get this error message, it is suggested to click “Show details” to further check out the error. For example, the further error message of the case is “Windows cannot be installed to this disk space. The partition contains one or more dynamic volumes that are not supported for installation.”

Then, we would know that the core cause for this error should be the dynamic volumes. We can convert dynamic disk to basic disk in the first place, and then try installation again. In fact, there are many other types of error messages in the details. Following are some common errors.

  • The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
  • The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
  • Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS.
  • This computer’s hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk’s controller is enabled in the computer’s BIOS menu.
  • The disk may fail soon. If other hard disks are available, install Windows in another location.
  • Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300001.

2 possible causes for cannot install Windows on disk 0 partition 1

Before fixing the error, it is important for us to learn why it happens. The following are two common causes.

  • The target disk does not support BIOS/UEFI boot mode

This error may occur when you set the boot mode or boot list option to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) in BIOS and the hard disk size exceeds 2TB.

  • Problem with the SAS driver of the target disk or corrupted MFT

When the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) driver of the target disk has a problem or the Master File Table (MFT) is corrupted, it causes the Windows partition manager (partmgr.sys) to fail during partition changes. When you try to install Windows using a hard disk, you will receive the above error message.

Different errors need different solutions. Here are 4 ways to easily fix above installing issues. Let’s get to know them one by one.

How to fix Windows cannot be installed to disk 0 partition 1 (3 Ways)
